Engineered nanomaterials are not considered hazardous materials by the Department of Transportation. LBNL however does apply the same controls required for chemicals to unbounded engineered nanomaterials. Follow the requirements for self-transporting or shipping chemicals.
The following are the only differences:
- There is no quantity limit for self-transporting unbound engineered nanomaterials.
- The outer packaging must also contain the words, “Nano-scale: This material’s toxicity, reactivity and other hazards may be greater than its macro-sized forms.”
