Berkeley Lab has multiple divisions who conduct routine crane, hoisting and rigging operations. Individual divisions purchase crane and hoisting equipment according to their operational needs. Some equipment is designed, built, tested and put into service for specific single use applications for what it was designed. Other equipment is purchased from recognized rigging vendors for a wide variety of hoisting applications. In certain circumstances (to save money or delivery times) a divisional group may choose to contact another divisional group to seek out and borrow specific equipment. Loaning of equipment between divisions is completely at the discretion of each divisions management as Berkeley Lab does not have a loan policy or operate an equipment loan database.
