The Industrial Hygiene Group conducts hazard evaluations for Facilities construction projects (large and small projects) and small work orders to identify chemical, physical, and biological health hazards prior to work commencing to ensure Facilities and subcontractor employees will be safe during their work.
Health hazards that are routinely evaluated include, but are not limited to, asbestos, lead, mercury, chemical contamination, sharps, abandoned chemical containers, epoxy work, chemical products, etc.
EHS IHs work closely with Facilities Project Managers, Project Superintendents, Project Engineers, and Facilities Crafts personnel to discuss the scope of projects to determine the potential hazards that need to be controlled. During the actual construction or demolition work, EHS IHs provide field oversight to ensure these hazards are adequately controlled through engineering and administrative controls and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is used appropriately.
