ORDINARY LIFT: Any non-critical/high consequence/high value or per-engineered lift.
- Requires a designated individual with the knowledge and experience of the equipment and lifting operations be present through the entirety of the lift
- Designation may be written instructions, specific verbal instructions for the particular job or clearly stated defined responsibilities within the crew’s organization structure.
PER-ENGINEERED/PRODUCTION LIFTS: A repetitive lift that is performed by production line personnel in the assembly or disassembly of components or systems where detailed lift planning, equipment selection, and lift-specific training may substitute for the qualifications.
Any per-engineered lifts shall be developed & approved via step by step procedures with approvals as set forth in PUB 3000 Ch 27 – 27.5 Definitions “Pre-Engineered/Production lifts”
CRITICAL, HIGH CONSEQUENCE, HIGH VALUE LIFTS & MOVES:
Requires an Engineering Note originated by the customer or division requesting the lift or move. For assistance with developing notes please contact mkincaid@lbl.gov or engineering@lbl.gov
- The note must contain the minimum following information.
- Identify the item(s) to be lifted
- Identify specific lifting & rigging components and attachment points
- Identify hoist/equipment for use
- All equipment/components are current and pre-use inspections are complete
- Specific instructions/procedures for attaching fixture(s)/components(s) to load and lifting equipment/hoist
- Step by step procedure for moving the load and any impacts to adjacent or other lab operations
- Specific instructions for removing fixtures/component(s) from hoist/load
Engineering notes are reviewed for approval by the following individuals:
- The customers management representative
- The Facilities Structural Engineer designee
- The Engineering Divisions Mechanical Engineer designee
- The Facilities Rigging Supervisor
- EHS Division Designee
