What types of gloves are available?
Chemically resistant gloves are made of many different types of materials such as polyvinyl chloride (PVC), nitrile, natural rubber (latex), neoprene, etc. They can be intended for single use (disposable) or for multiple uses (reusable). No single type of glove will provide protection against all hazards. Click here for additional information about glove types, thickness, and use.
Other types of gloves provide protection against cryogens, cuts, or against electrical shock.
How to select the right protective glove?
It is very important to wear the right glove for each specific task, since no one glove protects against all hazards. Selection of the most appropriate protective glove must be based on an assessment of your workplace hazards. Additional information about glove selection and use can be found in “Work Process I. Personal Protective Equipment” section of the Chemical Hygiene and Safety Plan. Most glove manufacturers provide glove guides that help you select the right glove for the job.
