- At LBNL, when indoor or outdoor AQI levels are between 51 and 400, respirator use is for comfort purposes. Employees who already have elastomeric type respiratory protection issued by LBNL may choose to wear their respirator or obtain N95 respirators issued through EHS.
- At LBNL, when outdoor workers are exposed to an EPA AQI greater than 400, half-mask elastomeric type respirator use is required and will be provided by LBNL EHS.
- Cal/OSHA wildfire smoke regulations technically do not apply to work spaces or operations in enclosed buildings or structures in which the air is filtered by a mechanical ventilation system. However, in cases where indoor PurpleAir sensor data shows AQI levels between 51 and 400, Lab employees may request N95 respirators from EHS for comfort purposes.
