What We Do
In partnership with customers and stakeholders, and keeping safety our number one priority, the mission of the LBNL Waste Management Group is to minimize waste where practical and to manage waste generated at Berkeley Laboratory compliantly and in a manner that enhances the Lab’s Research and Support Programs.
Waste Management provides a range of waste management services to Berkeley Lab scientists, research technicians, and staff in support organizations. Waste Management provides assistance to ensure that Berkeley Lab complies with local, state, and federal regulations. Our primary concern in all waste management operations is the health and safety of Lab personnel and the protection of the public and the environment.
Waste Management also operates the Hazardous Waste Handling Facility (HWHF) and regularly interfaces with regulatory inspectors, other DOE and University waste organizations, and provides resources such as training, supplies, and documentation.
