EHS Industrial Hygienists are available to evaluate the condition of asbestos-containing material and to determine if controls are necessary. (The Industrial Hygiene Group maintains an inventory of the location of asbestos containing material.)

The purpose of the Biosafety Program is to protect workers, the public, agriculture, and the environment from exposure to biological agents or materials that may cause disease or other detrimental effects in humans, animals, or plants.

EHS staff are available to support and consult on the development and implementation of chemical hygiene and safety for work activities. EHS also maintains personnel exposure to chemical agents within acceptable exposure limits.

Confined spaces are difficult to enter and exit, and are generally not designed for continuous human occupancy. Contact the Confined Space Program Manager to schedule an evaluation.

The Industrial Hygiene Group conducts hazard evaluations for Facilities construction projects (large and small projects) and small work orders to identify chemical, physical, and biological health hazards prior to work commencing.

All research work with controlled substances must be conducted under a valid registration issued by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). Contact us if you are interested in starting new work with controlled substances or to make changes to existing controlled substances work.

Cryogenic Liquid Safety is owned by the Research Support Team.

Industrial Hygiene and the Radiation Protection Groups help to limit exposures to materials or agents that could be associated with health hazards. Contact us to request an exposure assessment.

IH Technical Assurance Assessments are ongoing evaluations of major Environment, Health, and Safety programs at the Laboratory which address about half of the current Industrial Hygiene Programs, with the emphasis on the cornerstone programs, such as Chemical Hygiene and Safety, Confined Spaces, Respiratory Protection, Laser Safety, and Lead.

Contact the Industrial Hygienist assigned to support your Division to conduct pollutant sampling or HVAC system evaluation.

The LBNL Lead Program provides hazard assessment, work place evaluation, exposure monitoring, control measure design, and training classes to eliminate or minimize your exposure to lead.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) may be issued upon completion of a hazard assessment of activities or operations. Employees should work with their supervisor and EHS to obtain appropriate PPE.

The pressure safety program is designed to assist researchers in conducting their work with pressurized systems. We provide training, consultation, design and construction, and work authorizations.

Submit a request for a respirator, including dust mask, and/or for a consultation with a respiratory program administrator.

Roof access systems help minimize potential exposure to chemicals, magnetic fields, and radiological hazards for personnel who are working on roofs. Contact us for more information.
