Gasoline canisters are subject to the same transportation and shipping controls as chemicals. Please follow the requirements for self-transporting and shipping chemicals.
The following are the only differences:
- “Small” quantity of gasoline is defined as 8 gallons. Staff are able to transport up to 8 gallons of gasoline by vehicle. Beyond 8 gallons, additional training and controls are required before the gasoline can be transported.
- The canister containing the gasoline must be of a DOT or OSHA approved metal or plastic.
- Containers must be transported in the open bed of a truck.
Note: This does not refer to the gasoline in the gas tank of the vehicle. There are no DOT restrictions on that.
