Every June, the National Safety Council sponsors National Safety Month, an annual observance “to keep each other safe – from the workplace to anyplace.”
EHS Division encourages the Lab community to observe National Safety Month by acknowledging outstanding safety practices by fellow employees. In the past, we’ve done this with HERO Cards – handing out cards to one another upon witnessing safety practices in action. The Lab recently went live with an easier-to-use, virtual Safety Culture Badge – accessible through Bucketlist, the Lab’s employee recognition platform.
Bucketlist offers an easy and fun way to thank individuals and teams for demonstrating values – like safety – recognized by the Lab as critical to its success. Bestowing a virtual Safety Culture Badge is a new way to recognize fellow LBNL employees for demonstrating safety, and to further bolster the Lab’s culture of appreciation. The Badge will appear under the recipient’s “Achievements” tab, and their supervisor will be notified of the recognition. To give further incentive, granting a Safety Culture Badge does not deduct from individual Bucketlist points, and those receiving a Badge rack up 100 – yes, 100 – Bucketlist points. (Points collected on Bucketlist can be redeemed for various unique prizes.)
Follow these steps to recognize a fellow LBNL employee with a Safety Culture Badge:

- Visit Bucketlist
- Click on the “Recognitions” tab, and enter the person’s name you’d like to recognize
- Click on the “Awards” button and select Safety Culture Recognition
- Compose a message to the recipient indicating what you’re recognizing them for
- Choose whether you’d like the message to be viewable by the Lab community
- Click on “Post”
Note: DO NOT additionally choose “Core Value” or the Badge will be removed.
