The flu is a killer. In a typical year, the Centers for Disease Control estimate between 9 and 41 million people will become ill, up to 710,000 will need to be hospitalized, and between 12,000 and 52,000 people will die.
Receiving an annual flu vaccine is one way to beat it. While the flu season was mild in 2020, likely due to COVID restrictions, with masking and distancing requirements lifted in most instances, the flu is poised to make a comeback.
Attestation Process
UC requires employees who access Lab or UC premises to acknowledge they have received an annual flu vaccination. This applies to those who work on site at any time during flu season, which is now through April. Completing the attestation is optional for affiliates. Represented employees should consult their collective bargaining agreement for information on their flu shot requirements. To complete the attestation, go to clinic.lbl.gov>Flu Declaration>Read the information on the page>Click on the appropriate button>Click Submit. If you received your flu vaccine at the Lab through Health Services you do not need to complete the attestation. The deadline to complete the attestation is December 1.
Supervisors can also go to clinic.lbl.gov and see a report of those who report to them who have completed the flu vaccination attestation.
Vaccination Availability
Vaccines are available in community settings such as pharmacies or health care providers. The Lab’s Health Services is also offering flu shots. We offer Afluria or Fluad. Go to clinic.lbl.gov>My Appointments>Schedule a Flu Vaccine Appointment>Choose the reason for your visit>click on #4, Appointment Date and Time to select your appointment>click the green Submit button.
