The Centers for Disease Control has retired the community-level measurement of COVID in a community and now uses a hospitalization rate to track the spread of COVID in a county. DOE and the Lab will now use the CDC Hospital Admission Level to guide face covering and other requirements.
For the past year, the Department of Energy and the Lab have used the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) COVID community levels to guide the protocols that must be followed. The CDC has retired the community levels and now uses a hospitalization rate to track the spread of COVID in a county. DOE and the Lab will now use the CDC Hospital Admission Level to guide face covering and other requirements. The color coding of green, yellow, and orange used for the different community levels remains the same. You can review the current level for Alameda County at the Lab’s COVID website.
The Lab’s Environment, Health & Safety Division team will continue to use information from the CDC and other agencies to ensure the Lab’s COVID protocols are up-to-date. Following these protocols — especially the actions to take if you are ill, test positive, or have been exposed to someone with COVID — is an important way to ensure that the Lab’s population is kept healthy. In addition, if you believe you are ill, whether at the Lab or on travel, contact Health Services at 1-510-486-6266 for guidance.
