In some cases, staff may need to self-transport or ship hazardous materials from different hazard classes, for example, a shipment with a radioactive material, a chemical and a waste component.
Each hazardous material must be handled separately and in accordance with the guidance provided in these webpages. A few important points to keep in mind:
- Radioactive materials cannot be shipped with any other materials including non-hazardous items like notebooks. If you need to ship other hazardous materials in addition to radioactive materials, you will need to ship these items separately. Contact your assigned Radiological Control Technician and/or Health Physics to assist with radioactive material shipments.
- Hazardous, biohazardous, medical and radioactive wastes can only be shipped by LBNL EHS staff. Submit a Hazardous Waste Requisition or contact a Waste Generator Assistant for assistance.
- Shipping (x5084, x4388 or shipping@lbl.gov) can assist with shipment of all hazardous materials except for radioactive materials and hazardous/radioactive wastes.
