Work Planning and Control (WPC) is the process of integrating safety into the planning of work so that the hazards are identified and controlled and staff are qualified and authorized to perform the work they are assigned. There are different Work Planning and Control processes and systems used at the Lab (listed below) but the primary WPC system is Activity Manager which the following resources support.

WPC Programs & Systems used at LBNL
Activity Manager
The resources above are specific to Activity Manager. Activity Manager follows the Integrated Safety Management (ISM) process to plan and authorize work. It uses a graded approach where hazards are assigned a risk level ranging from low:1, medium:2, high:3. It is called Activity manager, because work is planned at the Activity level. Activity Manager is the main WPC process for staff and Affiliates who perform work at the Lab.
Subcontractor Job Hazard Analysis (SJHA) | Visit SJHA
The SJHA System is used to authorize vendors and non-construction subcontractors who perform non-construction, hands-on work at LBNL facilities such as maintenance and repairs
Construction JHA and Subcontractor (SSIP) | Visit website
There is a Construction Safety Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) process and a Site Specific Safety Plan (SSSP) used for construction subcontractors.
Experimental Safety Assessment Form (ESAF) | Visit website
The Advanced Light Source (ALS) uses the Experimental Safety Assessment Form (ESAF) as a work planning and work authorization tool for ALS Users.
B-88 Job Hazard Analysis
Non LBNL Users at the B-88 facility are authorized through a a Job Hazard Analysis process called Base JHA
