By exposing baker’s yeast, aka Saccharomyces cerevisiae, to lanthanide metals, the researchers have uncovered the most complete portrait yet of lanthanides and their potential toxicity. Their findings were published in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

Transportation of Hazardous Materials

A truck is guided up Cyclotron Road to Shyh Wang Hall (Building 59) where the Cori computer system is being dismantled and removed by Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE), at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (Berkeley Lab), 08/23/2023. Cori was the National Energy Research Scientific Computing Center’s (NERSC) longest-running system, commissioned in 2015, before being replaced by the Perlmutter system in 2023.
